A few years after my arrival in America, I received from U Than Daing a small consignment of his book, entitled THE DOCTRINE OF PATICCASAMUPPADA. He would tell me where to send one or two copies of the books, usually engratis. At that time, I was having some difficulty in reading a book with a profusion of Pail words that made little sense to me. I did write to U Than Daing about my problem, and asking him if such a book could not be written in plain English. He soon replied that without the Pali words and freuent references made to the Abhidhamma texts, (in footnotes) the book would not have the needed autheniticity.
